Hello 801!
Yesterday I called and emailed all of you about our continued online learning adventure and today we will begin! We will be easing slowly back into school. For some of you, it sounds like you're quite excited to have something to do again at home! We are still putting the finishing touches on your online courses and your official schedule, which will be coming out next week, but for now, we have made you some HUM and Math/Sci assignments to work on this week! Check Mr.McSween's blogs for the Math/Sci task.
HUM task for this week: You will be completing a reflection assignment that addresses this historic time, and discuss the effects of COVID-19 on you, our country, and the world.
- Step 1: Open up the task sheet: What in the World Assignment
- Step 2: Make a copy, title it "Your first name Last name - What in the World"
- Step 3: Save/Move it into your Google Drive Folder labeled Week 1. If you are having issues with this share the document with me (meaffleck@educbe.ca)
- Step 4: Begin working on the task. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. If you would like a graphic organizer to help you plan, check here: What in the World Organizers
Good luck! If you have any questions, please email me!

Objectives: Listing descriptive details from the text (page 64-65)
Drawing a diagram - VISUAL Journal
Activity in Visual Journal
In this chapter, the reader learns a great deal about Prince Humperdinck.
The author focuses particularly on the prince’s obsession with hunting. The prince once traveled the world to hunt a variety of animals, but as time went by, he found that travel was costly, and the long absences were interfering with his responsibilities. To solve this problem, Humperdinck created the Zoo of Death, in which animals are brought in from other countries so that he can hunt whenever he wants.
1. Review the description of the Zoo of Death.
2. Make a list of details about the Zoo —its levels and the types of animals housed there. 3. Then, use those details to draw a diagram of the Zoo. You must include all five levels, the animals contained on each, and the animals’ habitats. For the fifth level, which Humperdinck has left empty, draw what you think he might one day put there. |

What we did
|
Today we used the periods to finish work and begin to prep ourselves for our book study about The Princess Bride.
Please have the Author background sheet done for tomorrow and begin to read Pages 1-60:
Author Background Activity
Objective: Learning about the author through research
The Princess Bride is a work of fiction. However, sometimes the author of a novel will lie or exaggerate the truth for entertainment purposes. William Goldman has done that with The Princess Bride. In addition to other fabrications, he invented an original author of the work—S. Morgenstern.
How does the reader know which parts of Goldman’s preface (the introduction before the first chapter) are true and which are not? You’ll have to do some research to find out. Form small groups to complete the following chart. In the left column are some “facts” about William Goldman and The Princess Bride. Using the Internet and/or other sources, determine whether each statement is true or false, and indicate it on the chart. In the right column, provide the correct information for the false statements. Owen and Jason
