You will find all of the information you need for the week on the "Announcements"

Tutorials times this week: (link will be posted on the ANNOUNCEMENT page in D2L)
Tuesday 12PM - 3PM
Thursday 9AM-12PM

There will be tutorials available for math and science each week and you are required to check in to at least one. Each tutorial runs all morning or afternoon - you are not required to stay the entire time, just to ask questions or get a lesson on a certain concept. You could come ask a question, log out and return if you had another question... We will take ATTENDANCE, so make sure you come to at least one. You will need to use your @educbe.ca account to join the tutorials and remember to turn off your mic, when you're not talking.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Wednesday April 1st

Good morning everyone! I hope that you are doing well and feeling healthy. It was very nice to talk to the few of you that I did yesterday. We will be setting up times next week when we can meet together online. For this week, I will post an assignment each day and we will have a quiz or check in on Friday for Percents.

Learning online is going to be a little strange but remember that it is okay if you don't get the concept right away. Try reading the examples again and watching, re-watching the videos if you are stuck. Try explaining it to a parent or sibling to make sure you to make sure you've got it.  Use the answers given to make sure that you are on track, check right away after a few questions to make sure.  Try your best to struggle through the problems - persistence is part of learning in math! And I know each one of you can do it. Let me know if you need some help. I will be checking my email regularly this week.

Your Assignment:
1. Read through the examples 1 & 2 on pages 139 and 140 in the Math Links text, (find it in D2L)
2. Watch this video
3. On Page 142  - do questions #4, 5, 7, 8 10 correct your answers (see below)

Hello from HDC! We miss you all. Hope that all is going well at home.

We know that you worked very hard on your Da Vinci projects over the last week or so. Even though we sadly cannot see your masterpieces in person, we would still love to get a chance to see and assess your creations! Here's what we need you to do:
1. Create a new folder in Google Drive. Title it, "Your full name - Da Vinci Project"
2. Take pictures of ALL visual journal pages that you used for your project. There should only be one journal page per photo
3. Upload these photos into your new folder on Google Drive. Please title each photo as which page it shows (e.g. "Circulatory system drawing")
4. Once all photos of your project are in the folder, share the folder with all three of us (plus Ms. Lockwood because she wants to see your drawings!):

  • Ms. Epp: gmepp@educbe.ca
  • Ms. Krushel: mnkrushe@educbe.ca
  • Ms. Hoskins: elhoskins@educbe.ca
  • Ms. Lockwood: aalockwood@educbe.ca
We are so excited to see your projects! If you are having issues creating your folder, uploading pictures, etc. please let us know, and we will help you find another way to get your project to us.

Take care, be safe, and stay calm. As Nenshi said, we will get through this with clean hands, clear heads, and open hearts. Feel free to shoot any of us an email if you need anything 💌

-Ms. Epp, Ms. Krushel, Ms. Lockwood, and Ms. Hoskins

Tuesday March 17th - Happy St. Patricks Day! I hope that you are doing well, staying healthy and enjoying some down time. Please complete your DaVinci Project, like Ms. Hoskins said in her email - take pictures if you need to and put them into the Google Drive Folder. While we are away, try to keep up with your math skills. Do a daily BrainBasher or play a little Bingo. I will also post a few video to walk about converting percents, fractions and decimals. Stay healthy and stay posted for more information.

Welcome to Grade 8 Math. It was great to meet all of you and I am excited to teach you this year.

This week on Tuesday, we tried to find all of the digits between 1 and 20, only using the digit 4. We had some super creative answers!

On Wednesday, we wrote a "test" to give me some baseline data as to what you can do in math and what is kind of hard, or maybe what you just forgot over the summer holidays. Thank you all for working so hard and trying your best.

Yesterday, we started our Data Management unit by creating a Bar Graph and today we reviewed the Line Graph...Next week, we will carry on interpreting and creating graphs. Remember to bring your rulers.

Have a fabulous weekend.

Ms. Epp
