2. Introduced Great Thinker Project

Great Thinkers PP

Great Thinkers Organizer

TASK:
  1. Research each of the 16 “Great Thinkers”. Find out about their lives, their accomplishments (what did they do that was so awesome) and their longstanding impacts on society/worldview.  Use the graphic organizer provided to complete your research.
You must create a tournament style poster that includes the following:
  1. There are SIXTEEN participants but only EIGHT spots.  Half will not even make the tournament.  Include a two to three sentence explanation of why you disqualified each person including things such as the influence their ideas had on the worldview of Renaissance Europe and today, as well as the importance of their discoveries.
  1. Match up the remaining 8 contestants for round 1. Decide who would win between the two. “Winning” means that you believe that person’s ideas/contributions were more important for European society than the other persons.
  1. Write 1 properly formatted paragraph describing each match up in round one that includes why you chose the winner as the victor (2 examples) AND why you thought the loser deserved to lose (1 example).
  1. 4 paragraphs
  1. Quarter-final paragraphs
  1. Repeat step 2 with new match ups and determine new reasons why someone would win/lose.
  1. 2 paragraphs
  1. Semi-finals paragraphs
  1. Repeat step 3 with new match ups and determine new reasons why someone would win/lose.
  1. The final match as well as a paragraph explaining why you chose that person to win.  The paragraph should focus on why is this individual superior to all others in the tournament.
  1. A visual diagram of the tournament
